MORRIS PLAINS, NJ : Police ID New Jersey man killed in upstate New York crash on Friday, January 13th 2017

Police have identified a 19-year-old New Jersey man who was killed in a crash last week on a highway in upstate New York.

State troopers responded to the scene of the crash early Friday on Interstate 81 in the Broome County town of Kirkwood, New York.

The Record reports the driver, Gregory Persaud, of Morris Plains, New Jersey, was taken to a hospital with severe injuries. He was later declared dead.

Witnesses say the vehicle was speeding and passed another vehicle on the left shoulder. Police say Persaud’s vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

An investigation remains ongoing.
