Columbia County, WI : Waunakee man dies after car crash in Columbia County on Wednesday, 10th August, 2016

A 47-year-old Waunakee man died after Wednesday morning after his pickup was hit by a Columbia County Highway Department truck near Arlington, the Wisconsin State Patrol said.

The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 60 and Highway C around 8:20 a.m., police said. The initial investigation suggests the highway department truck that was hauling recyclables failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into a pick-up truck driven by Kenneth Helt, the State Patrol said.

Helt was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the State Patrol said. The driver of the county vehicle, 35-year-old Eric Moll, of Pardeeville, was wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol is not thought to have played a role, the State Patrol said, and the investigation is ongoing.
