Deerfield,MI : 4-year-old who died in crash was ejected, mother airlifted, sheriff says on September, Wednesday 4th 2017

A mother was airlifted in critical condition and her 4-year-old daughter died after being ejected in a vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon, the Isabella County Sheriff has confirmed.

Isabella County Sheriff Mike Main also stated there were two other drivers in the crash, one of them injured but not critical and the other uninjured.

The sheriff did not disclose ages, names nor residences of those involved in the crash.

The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of M-20 and Winn Road, Main said.

Main stated either the mother or the woman who was injured but not critical failed to yield at a red light and struck the other's vehicle. The Mount Pleasant Morning Sun previously cited the sheriff as saying the driver who was injured but not critical was at fault.

The girl was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a head injury, while the mother was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut out, Main said.

During the collision, one of the vehicles struck a pickup truck driven by a man, the sheriff said. He was not injured.

Despite the efforts of Emergency Medical Service personnel, the girl died at the scene while awaiting transportation to a hospital, Main said. The mother was airlifted in critical condition.
