Tacoma, WA : Families grief stricken over deadly car crash Wednesday morning on September 10, 2014

The family of a man who was hit by a car and critically injured says they feel for the suspect. Andy O'Brien is still in critical condition, and his friend Alana Kemppainen was killed in the Wednesday morning crash. The man who was behind the wheel, Dan Krogman, faced a judge Thursday through a video screen. In courtroom watching were Krogman's family and friends, who've voiced a great deal of support for him through social media. They also expressed condolences for the family of Kemppainen, who was killed as she walked home from a tavern early Wednesday morning. "That young girl, God bless her family and their tragedy, and that young man who's in a coma," said Krogman's mother, Cynthia Luckie. O'Brien is at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries. "So right now he's in limbo. He has some good moments, he has some not so good moments. We're just staying vigilant and he's in the best hands that he could be in," said his sister, Ashley. Ashley said her brother has been in and out of consciousness with serious head and back injuries and complications with his heart, spleen and kidneys. "He's given a thumbs up 1-1/2 times when he's prompted, but he's under pretty heavy sedation for the pain," she said. O'Brien and Kemppainen had just left the Tracyton Tavern on foot so they wouldn't be drinking and driving when both were hit in the road. Krogman, who's the lead singer of a popular local band called Beneath all Kaos, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Court documents say he drove because "he thought he was the least intoxicated person in the group." He later admitted "He drank two pints of beer and two double shots of vodka," according to court documents. "Dan is a sweet Christian young man. A lot of piercings and tattoos and please don't pre-judge him," Krogman's mother said. Ashley O'Brien said she feels for Krogman. "I think he will, from what I understand, judge himself more harshly than we could," she said. "I hear that he's pretty devastated." "I just pray that dan stays strong and the families stay strong and love each other instead of hating and bashing and judging people," said Krogman's girlfriend, Sarah Groshong. Krogman is being held on $500,000 bail and is due back in court in two weeks. Source : Families grief stricken over deadly car crash
