Westminster, MD : Sheriff's deputy, woman seriously injured in a crash at Route 26 and Franklinville Road on Wednesday, January 27, 2016

Two people were injured Wednesday in a crash that involving a sheriff's deputy in Carroll County.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office said the crash occurred at about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday at Route 26 and Franklinville Road.

Police said the deputy was driving his marked Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle westbound on Route 26 in the area of Franklinville Road, when his vehicle was struck by car driven by a 21-year-old woman who was traveling eastbound from Westminster.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation.

Police said both drivers were taken by ambulance to Shock Trauma with serious injuries. Further information on their conditions is not available.

Route 26 was closed between Hooper Road and Route 27 for investigators to reconstruct the collision. The road was reopened by 8:45 a.m., the Sheriff's Office said.
