LAFAYETTE, IN : Driver Lifelined from crash on Tippecanoe County Road 700 West on Thursday, 9th January, 2020

Nichelle Wilkinson, the driver of a southbound blue Honda Element, drove into the back of a stopped semi trailer about 10:05 a.m. Thursday on Tippecanoe County Road 700 West, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.

The southbound semi, driven by Danny Kouns, 61, of Lafayette, was stopped on the county road about a mile south of Granville Bridge over the Wabash River and Division Road.

He was stopped so he could enter electronic log information, according to the sheriff's office.

Wilkinson, 34, of Lafayette, suffered blunt force injuries, including a head injury, in the crash, according to police. Deputies suspect Wilkinson was not wearing a seat belt, according to the sheriff's office.

A Lifeline helicopter landed in a field near the crash and lifted off a short time later, taking Wilkinson to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment, according to the sheriff's office.
