Statesville, NC : Single-car crash closes Amity Hill Road on Friday, October, 13th 2017

Amity Hill Road south of Statesville was closed for part of Friday afternoon after an 89-year-old woman's car ran off the road and damaged a power pole, causing the lines to sag into the road.

The crash happened around 2:20 p.m. in the 2900 block, near Interstate 77 exit 45.

The woman, who was not identified, was traveling south in a silver Mercury passenger vehicle when she went off the right side of the road, Trooper C. Causby said.

Her vehicle struck a chain-link fence at the corner of CRTS Utility Trailer Sales, continued and hit the guide wire which held up the pole. The vehicle came to rest about 30 feet from the side of the road.

The woman did not appear injured but was transported by Iredell EMS to a hospital, Causby said.

Duke Energy responded to the scene to repair the pole. The road was closed for at least an hour.
