Wisner, LA : Driver dies in Franklin Parish 2-vehicle crash on Friday, August 19, 2016

One Winnsboro man is dead after a truck backed into his path on Louisiana 562 about three miles west of Wisner.

On Friday, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 31-year-old Peter Munguia was traveling west on Louisiana 562 when a 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by 52-year-old Bennie Richardson of Wisner backed into the roadway from a private drive directly into the path of the Grand Marquis. The Grand Marquis struck the Peterbilt in the driver’s side and both vehicles came to a stop.

Munguia was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish coroner.

Impairment is suspected on the part of Munguia. Toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Richardson was not injured in the crash but was cited for improper backing. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash and is the single most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves.
