Greenville, NC : Driver airlifted after Grifton head-on collision on Friday morning, August 19, 2016

A driver was airlifted after a head-on collision in Grifton this morning, according to State Highway Patrol.

The wreck occurred at 7:29 a.m. on East Hanrahan Road near Marvin Taylor Road, Sgt. Gary Weaver said. The driver of an eastbound Dodge Durango veered left of center and hit a westbound Mazda van head on, he said.

Both drivers were entrapped after the collision and had to be cut from the vehicles, according to the highway patrol.

The driver of the Mazda van was airlifted by EastCare to Vidant Medical Center. The Durango driver was transported by EMS. The highway patrol was not immediately able to release information about either person’s identity or condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
