Flemington, NJ : Tractor trailer crashes into gazebo in Jersey City park on Thursday, December 8th 2016

A truck driver drove into Hamilton Park in Downtown Jersey City Thursday night, slamming into the park's gazebo and causing unknown damage.

Witnesses say the driver was headed south on Jersey Avenue, which ends at the park at Ninth Street, at about 10 p.m. Instead of turning onto Ninth Street, the driver continued straight into the park and plowed into the gazebo.

A post on the Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association's Facebook page says the truck was carrying bottled water.

It is not known where the driver was coming from or headed. His condition is unknown.

The roughly 5-acre park is located three blocks south from where the New Jersey Turnpike extension feeds into the Holland Tunnel. The gazebo is located about 200 feet inside the park.

Witnesses said a hazmat team was on the scene Thursday night because the crash caused the truck to spill oil.
