Athens, W.V : Woman dies after a motor-vehicle accident in Mercer County on Monday, August 1, 2016

One person has died in a motor-vehicle accident in Mercer County.

First responders were at the scene Monday of a fatal crash on Mercer Springs Road near Athens. Trooper D.B. Whited of the West Virginia State Police Princeton Detachment confirmed that there was one fatality in the single vehicle crash.

Whited said later it appeared that the female driver, who was traveling toward Athens, lost control in a curve and skidded about 65 feet before going down a 32 foot embankment. The driver has been identified, but the name was being withheld until Whited spoke with the family.

The investigation is continuing.
