Austin,TX : 2 people killed in Central El Paso wreck Sunday afternoon on January, Sunday 7th 2018

A second person has died due to injuries sustained in a serious wreck Sunday afternoon in Central El Paso.

Mariah Bernardez, 24, and Michael Issa, 23, were killed in a car accident which occurred at about noon Sunday on U.S. Highway 54 near the Pershing Drive exit, El Paso Police Department officials said.

Bernardez was driving a 2007 Honda Civic north on the highway and was allegedly changing lanes from left to right erratically, officials said.

She then swerved right across a dirt median, struck a center cable divider and knocked down two poles and a cable, officials said.

The car then continued to cross two other lanes and struck a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Christian Rivera, 21, who was driving in the center lane of U.S. Highway 54 North.
