2 killed in Oceanside truck crash on north of Border Patrol checkpoint

The California Highway Patrol said two people were killed in a crash in Oceanside Saturday night when their Chevy Silverado truck hit a pole on Interstate 5 north of a Border Patrol checkpoint and burst into flames.
The crash occurred at 10:41 p.m., according to a CHP statement.
Officers said the occupants of the truck -- a male driver, a female passenger and two dogs -- died at the scene.
A witness reported seeing a pickup truck strike a light pole and explode, southbound on the San Diego Freeway, the CHP said.
The truck reportedly also hit a device used to measure semi-tractors when they are weighed, according to the statement.
Camp Pendleton firefighters assisted in extinguishing the fire.
Three of the four freeway lanes were blocked for 1 1/2 hours during the incident.
Officers said it is unclear if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the wreck. It remains under investigation.
