Hudson, FL : St. Petersburg man struck, killed while walking on U.S. 19 in Hudson Saturday on September 20, 2014

A 45-year-old Bay area man died early Saturday after he was hit by a car on US 19 in Hudson. Tommy Lee Owens of St. Petersburg was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:30 am. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report the incident occurred just south of Beacon Woods Dr. in the center lane of the roadway. The report states a 2013 Toyota Prius driven by Angel Hidalgo-Rivera of Brooksville was traveling north on US 19 when the left front end of his vehicle struck Owens. Hidalgo-Rivera, 26, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. The impact knocked Owens into the inside lane of the roadway. He was not walking in a crosswalk and investigators do not know if he was impaired at the time. The crash and investigation closed the road for four hours. No charges have been filed.
