Memphis, TN : Mother killed in fiery car crash in Frayser on Thursday morning, August 25, 2016

A woman is dead after a two car crash in Frayser on Thursday morning.

Police said the crash happened at James Road and Chatworth Street just before 9 a.m.

Family members identified the woman as Brittany King. She was the mother of four children in her 20s.

Her sister came to the scene to lay flowers at the site in her honor Thursday afternoon. Her sister said King was a loving mother who will be greatly missed.

"She was a great mom," King's sister Jasmine Middle Brooks said. "She was also the mother of four kids. She was also a working lady. She had very good talent. She just had a happy family with kids."

According to police, two cars were involved in the crash. One car flipped, hit a utility pole, and caught fire.

Brooks said the news was shocking and hard to hear.

"I just started crying instantly. It was a shock," Brooks said.

Witnesses said two men tried to rescue the woman from the fiery crash, but the efforts did not save her life.

"I said 'ya'll better get back,' because the car was just going and blowing," one witness said.

Investigators said King was trapped inside one of the cars and was pronounced dead on the scene. Originally, a child was thought to be injured in the crash, but police have since rescinded that detail. They said the child was uninjured.

"They tried to save her, but the car was burning so bad that they couldn't, but they stood there until they emptied out their fire extinguishers," the witness said.

A half mile down the road past McClean Boulevard, police said a vehicle also involved in the crash came to a stop. The driver was detained for questioning.

Witnesses said one of the vehicles appeared to be chasing the other before they heard the explosion.

"I heard the speed racing and then when I heard the book I don't know what it was, road rage, but I know it was an evil thing done," the witness said.

Investigators have not confirmed what led up to the crash.

Those who saw what happened hope the family finds peace in knowing someone did their best to rescue the stranger.

"To this family, somebody did try to get to your daughter. I don't want you to think that it was like nobody cared or nobody did anything," the witness said. "The people absolutely tried to rescue this lady."
