A Putnam County teenager was killed in an ATV crash early Wednesday morning.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department said Seldon Lee Rife, 15, of Hurricane, died after losing control of his ATV on Sams Fork Road in Hurricane. The crash happened just after 5:30 a.m.
Police said it appears Rife lost control of the ATV while traveling in a right-hand curve in the road. The ATV continued to travel off the road for more than 200 feet before striking a tree, according to police.
Police said they found the ATV over an embankment when they arrived at the scene. Rife was pronounced dead there.
Putnam Sheriff Steve Deweese said Rife was traveling alone when the wreck happened. Deweese said police do not know where the teenager was going.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident. The Hurricane Fire Department and Putnam County EMS also responded.
