Greenville, NC : Violent wreck causes injuries on N.C. 43 south of Greenville on Thursday, 26th September 2019

A Maryland woman was airlifted after running a stop sign and colliding with a tractor-trailer on N.C. 43 south of Greenville on Thursday, the State Highway Patrol reported.
The wreck occurred about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of N.C. 102 near Calico. The woman’s car and the truck both overturned in a wreck that left the scene looking like a war zone, Trooper Steven Ziemba said.
The woman was westbound on N.C. 102 and did not stop for a stop sign. Her Toyota Camry crossed the northbound lane into the southbound lane of N.C. 102. The southbound truck was traveling the speed limit and could not avoid the car. It hit the right front of the vehicle.
“It was such a violent collision that both vehicles overturned,” Ziemba said. The truck’s engine was ejected from the chassis and landed in front of a nearby store, setting fire to some brush. The truck also caught fire but was quickly extinguished by bystanders.
The trucker was transported to Craven Regional Medical Center, and the woman was flown to Vidant Medical Center by EastCare. She was in serious but stable condition Thursday night, Ziemba said.
