Raleigh, NC : Mother of eight from Colombia enjoying vacation in U.S. killed in Charlotte by drunk driver with history of DWI on Saturday, 20th August, 2016

A 79-year-old mother of eight from Colombia who was enjoying a vacation in the U.S. visiting loved ones was killed in Charlotte by a drunk driver with a history of DWI convictions.

Cecelia Buitrago de Gonzalez was in a car with three other family members when Kelly Ann Conkin's vehicle veered over a median into traffic at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Gonzalez was visiting four daughters in the area after already seeing Niagara Falls and a Broadway show on her trip, according to the newspaper.

Conkin, 23, was hit with several charges, including DWI and felony death by motor vehicle. She had previously been convicted of DWI in North Carolina in 2014, and DUI in South Carolina the same year, according to the Observer.
