CORNING, CA : Two injured in I-5 rollover and subsequent crash on Wednesday, 21st August 2019

An overturned car and collision near Gay Creek Bridge on Interstate 5 south of Corning Wednesday morning left two men injured and one had to be flown to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.

Andrare Bell, 22, of Orland was driving southbound on I-5 in his 2007 Honda Accord around 3:15 a.m., according to a press release issued Wednesday by the California Highway Patrol.

Bell veered off the east side of the road into the center divider. He over corrected, which caused the Honda to overturn and block both southbound lanes, the release said.

Bell was able to exit the Honda and make it to the west shoulder of I-5, but Ronald Pires Jr., 53, of Burney, hit the Accord with his 2012 Honda Insight.

Bell suffered major injuries and Pires suffered minor injuries. Bell was flown by air ambulance to Enloe. Pires was transported to Enloe by ambulance.

The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for around 45 minutes.

Bell was arrested following the incident on suspicion of driving under the influence.
