HAVERHILL, MA : Bradford woman seriously injured in I-95 crash on Wednesday, December, 27th 2017

A 54-year-old Bradford woman was seriously injured Wednesday after her vehicle crossed the median of Interstate 95 in Boxford and struck two other vehicles. The woman was transported from the scene by medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center.

According to a Massachusetts State Police spokesman, neither the name of the woman nor her medical condition is being released.

On Wednesday at approximately 1:31 p.m., troopers from the state police barracks in Newbury responded to reports of a serious crash on Interstate 95 southbound just north of Exit 52 in Boxford.

Callers reported that a vehicle was traveling northbound, crossed the median, and struck a vehicle that was traveling southbound.

Upon arrival, Trooper John Lione discovered a three-vehicle crash. One driver had serious, life-threatening injuries.

Police said a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 54-year-old Bradford woman, was traveling I-95 northbound, and for reasons still under investigation, crossed the median into the southbound lanes, sideswiped a 2018 Nissan Altima driven by a 68-year-old man from Naples, Florida, then struck a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by a 32-year-old man from Everett.

Police said the driver of the Jeep sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center. The driver of the Toyota and a passenger in the Nissan sustained minor injuries and were both transported to Beverly Hospital. The driver of the Nissan was not injured.

When the medical helicopter landed, all northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 were closed. During the incident, and reconstruction, only one lane was closed in each direction. All lanes were reopened at approximately 4:10 p.m., as all emergency personnel were cleared from the scene.

The incident is under investigation by troopers from the Newbury barracks. Assisting at the scene were members of Troop A headquarters, state police Andover barracks, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, State Police Community Action Team, Boxford police and fire departments, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
