Woodland Twp, NJ : Driver killed in fiery crash on Sooy Place Road near Johnson Place Road on Monday, August 15, 2016

New Jersey State Police identified the driver who died in a fiery crash Monday as Robert Kinzel, 33, of Woodland.

Kinzel was traveling south on Sooy Place Road near Johnson Place Road at noon when he lost control of his vehicle, according to Trooper Alejandro Goez. He said the vehicle crashed into the woods and after hitting a tree, burst into flames.

The Associated Press reported that the fire spread in the woods and had to be extinguished by the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

Kinzel was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Goez said Tuesday the investigation is still in the early stages, but investigators believe Kinzel died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, as opposed to a prior medical issue.

The New Jersey State Police Crime Scene and Fatal Accident Unit is in charge of the investigation into the cause of the crash.
