Floyd, NY : New Hartford woman killed in a head-on crash on Route 49 Wednesday, August 3, 2016

A New Hartford woman was killed in a head-on crash on Route 49 Wednesday, state police said.

Dorothy C. Battelene, 84, of Cascade Drive was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

She was westbound around 5:30 p.m. when for unknown reasons she crossed over into the eastbound lanes near the Oriskany exit and struck a truck operated by James M. Twomey, 51, of Doyle Road in Deerfield, police said.

Twomey was transported to St. Elizabeth Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System for injuries that weren't life-threatening, police said.

The eastbound lanes were closed from Rome to the accident scene for several hours.

Members from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Stittville Fire Department and Floyd Fire Department assisted at the scene.
