Rapid City, SD : Pursuit ends in rollover accident on Sunday, July 16, 2017

Two people were hospitalized following a police pursuit through Badlands National Park that ended when the vehicle they were riding in left the highway and rolled early Sunday afternoon.

A passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to Regional Health Rapid City Hospital. The driver was taken to Rapid City hospital by ambulance.No names have been released and Badlands National Park was releasing few details as of press time. According to Christine Czazasty, public information information officer for the park, the chase began when a Pennington County Sheriff's deputy and Badlands park rangers attempted to pull over the driver for speeding on S.D. Highway 240 (Badlands Scenic Loop). The chase began at Conata Basin and ended at Ancient Hunters Overlook when the driver lost control and rolled the vehicle, which landed in an embankment.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Police said alcohol is believed to be involved.
