A Wednesday afternoon automobile crash claimed the life of a Powell woman and sent the juvenile driver to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the crash and identified the deceased as 20-year-old Holland Durbrow.

A number of agencies, including the Roane County Sheriff's Office, District Attorney General Russell Johnson and his investigators, responded to the crash site on Poplar Creek Road.

Lt. Lucious Howard of the THP said the vehicle was apparently being pursued by the Harriman Police Department. This was later confirmed by Harriman police.

“On Aug. 24, 2016, members of the Harriman Police Department made contact with a stolen pickup occupied by two suspects,” the Harriman Police Department said in a prepared statement. “When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects refused to stop and fled from officers. At one point during the pursuit, the officers lost sight of the vehicle on Poplar Creek Road. It was then discovered by an officer that the driver had lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a one vehicle traffic crash.”

The Roane County News was at the crash scene and will report details as they develop in Friday's issue of the newspaper and online at RoaneCounty.com.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story reported that the person killed was a youth. That was based on information the Tennessee Highway Patrol provided at the scene of the crash, which was still under investigation at the time.
