MIDDLEBOURNE, OH : I-70 crash claims truck driver on Saturday, January 21st 2017

A tractor-trailer hauling more than 21,000 pounds of mail struck a concrete bridge support on Interstate 70 near the Quaker City exit late Saturday afternoon, killing the driver and spilling most of the truck's load onto the roadway.

Harold Lee Stapp, 45, of Poterdale, Ga., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Poterdale was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.

Both lanes of westbound I-70 were closed for several hours while crews cleared debris from the roadway.

According to the Cambridge post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Stapp was westbound on I-70 driving the tractor-trailer when the truck traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. The truck continued west and then struck the concrete bridge support, causing extensive damage to the truck and trailer.
