The Oregon State Police have identified the two drivers involved in a deadly crash in St. Helens Thursday.

Quinnion Avery, 57, from Marietta, Georgia, was driving an SUV on Highway 30 when an officer with the Scappoose Police Department attempted to pull him over in relation to a driving complaint.

Avery initially pulled over before fleeing the stop, heading west on Highway 30. The officer pursued for a short time before stopping the chase, citing public safety.

Minutes later Avery crashed into the back of a westbound car driven by Rhonda Lull, 48, of St. Helens. The SUV left the roadway, going over railroad tracks and down an embankment, coming to rest on its side. Avery died from injuries at the scene of the crash.

Lull's vehicle was sent across three lanes of traffic before going through a fence and coming to a stop in a yard. She was sent to a Portland hospital for treatment.

OSP investigators are looking at alcohol use and speed as possible contributing factors to the crash.
