Cartersville, GA : 56-year-old Cartersville resident died after his truck collided with a tree on Walnut Grove Road on Saturday evening, August 13, 2016

A 56-year-old Cartersville resident died Saturday evening after his truck collided with a tree.

The driver of the 1992 Ford F150, identified as Timmy William Haygood, was traveling southbound on Walnut Grove Road near its intersection with Old Mill Road when the incident took place, according to an accident report released by Cartersville police.

Haygood "failed to maintain lane, causing him to leave the roadway and strike a tree," the report said.

Bartow County Emergency Medical Services responded to reports of the accident around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

"I did not observe any skid marks on or off the roadway indicating that [the driver] had attempted to stop or avoid the collision," the responding officer wrote in the report.

Cartersville police and fire departments, along with emergency personnel, began life-saving efforts on Haygood, said Bartow EMS spokesperson Brad Cothran.

Advanced life support treatment continued at Cartersville Medical Center, Cothran said, but Haygood did not respond to treatment and was pronounced dead.
