Five people, including four Anne Arundel County firefighters, were injured in a crash in Glen Burnie as their vehicle collided with a car while responding to another accident Wednesday afternoon.

Capt. Russ Davies, spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, said the accident happened in the area of Ritchie Highway and Aquahart Road at 12:55 p.m.

Davies said members from the heavy rescue squad at the Severn fire station were en route to an accident at the intersection of Ritchie Highway and Georgia Avenue when they collided with a two-door sedan.

The driver of the sedan, a 17-year-old, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with possible serious injuries, Davies said.

Four firefighters were taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie with minor injuries, Davies said.

Anne Arundel police are investigating the cause of the crash.

As for the accident they were responding to, Davies said one driver was trapped inside her car and had to be freed by firefighters.

That person was taken to Harbor Hospital with minor injuries, Davies said, and no one else was injured.
