Middleboro, MA : 55-year-old man killed in motorcycle crash on East Main Street on Sunday evening, April 9, 2017

A 55-year-old resident was killed when he crashed while riding his motorcycle Sunday evening.

George Antonelli, of Middleboro, crashed into a guardrail while riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, police said.

Officer Peter Vanasse was the first officer on scene Sunday at 6:02 p.m., after police received a 911 call about a crash on East Main Street.

Vanasse found a man in the roadway, suffering from serious injuries.

The man, later identified as Antonelli, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He was operating a motorcycle north on East Main Street – Route 105 – when his motorcycle went off the road, striking a guardrail,” Police Chief Joseph Perkins said in a written statement. “The investigation is ongoing, but speed is believed to be a factor.”

A Brewster ambulance responded to the scene, but Antonelli died before being taken to a hospital.

“He was ejected from the motorcycle,” Fire Chief Lance Benjamino said. “There were no other vehicles involved.”

Police closed East Main Street between Sachem and Wood streets for several hours to investigate the fatal crash, which occurred near Montello Street.

The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section and Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene and are investigating.
