Two men were killed and another was seriously injured when they were struck early Thursday while standing next to a disabled car along State Road 50.
The crash, which happened just after 1:30 a.m. in Christmas, shut down the eastbound lanes at St. Nicholas Avenue.Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol said that before the men were hit they had been involved in an earlier crash.
They were standing outside their vehicle when they were hit by a Dodge van.
The driver of the van told troopers that he could not see the men in the roadway. He said that he swerved in a last-minute attempt to avoid hitting them, but struck the right side of their car and all three men.
One man died at the scene and another was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center. The third man struck is being treated for serious injuries at ORMC.
Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
