A single-car crash on Monday afternoon killed the driver and caused multiple lanes of Interstate 495 to be closed for a time while police investigated.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. Monday on the northbound side of the highway, according to Massachusetts State Police. The man driving the car was killed. Police did not release his identity Monday night. It was unclear what exactly caused the car to crash.
Police closed three lanes of the highway while conducting crash reconstruction and clean-up. At one point, traffic was backed up more than three miles while police worked.
At around 7:30 p.m., all lanes were reopened.
The crash remains under investigation.
