Following the unspeakable loss of their relative Javairia Mahmood, family members have started a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses.

Mahmood, 22, of Trenton, was laid to rest Saturday following a Muslim funeral ceremony at Trenton’s Masjid as-Saffat. Mahmood’s grieving family members could hardly find the words on Saturday to express the pain of their loss. But on Sunday, Mahmood’s sister, Sabba Mahmood, shared some memories of Javairia, who was also known as Jia or Java, on the GoFundMe page she started.

“She had a contagious smile that could infect a room with laughter and was so absolutely beautiful,” Sabba Mahmood wrote, adding her sister was one of a kind. “Being the youngest of 7, she was the baby of the family and my mothers favorite - no question about that. They had a relationship like no other. Her singing would fill our house from morning to night. Music was her passion, as anyone that knew her would know.”

Javairia Mahmood died early Friday as a passenger in a high-speed car crash off Interstate 95 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Arthur A. Lewis of Trenton, has been charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of drugs.

Sabba Mahmood said her family is “absolutely devastated” by the tragedy that took her sister’s life a couple weeks after her 22nd birthday.

“No one could have imagined something like this,” her sister posted. “But it brings us comfort that so many people knew and loved Jia. Our family received an unbelievable amount of emotional support in this hard time. Thank you to everyone who attended her Janazah, her burial, her memorial and everyone who reached out with kind words, thoughts, and prayers.”

The 22-year-old was laid to rest at Jersey State Memorial Park in Millstone Township.
