High-speed chase, crash and arrests in W. Jordan

A man and woman were behind bars after a high-speed police chase ended with a crash in West Jordan early Thursday morning.

Public safety dispatchers confirm that the chase began at 7800 S. Redwood, where police say the woman driver blew through a red light. The ensuing pursuit wound through residential areas and eventually onto Bangerter Highway, where the car ended up going the wrong way.

Police reportedly used a "PIT maneuver" (where a pursuing officer abruptly turns in front of the suspect vehicle, forcing it off the road) and the car crashed into an embankment near 13800 South at 2:41 a.m.

No one was injured.

It was not immediately known why the woman decided to flee police rather than pull over, but both she and her male companion were arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of fleeing a police officer and other charges.
