THARPTOWN, AL : Russellville man killed in Wednesday night crash on Wednesday, September 13, 2017

A Franklin County man died Wednesday night from injuries he sustained when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car, authorities said.

Officials said William Wellman, 24, Clements Road, Russellville, died at Lawrence Medical Center in Moulton.

Reports indicate Wellman was injured in a crash about 6:30 p.m. on Franklin 48 east of Russellville. He was initially taken to Russellville Hospital. According to friends and family members, he was en route to meet a helicopter in Decatur, to be flown to Huntsville Hospital, when his condition worsened and he was taken to Lawrence Medical Center.

His 2006 Suzuki motorcycle collided with a 2007 Hyundai driven by Betty Vandiver, 71, of Leighton.

The wreck remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Quad-Cities State Troopers Post.
