Clovis, CA : Three people injured after a Head-on crash north of Clovis on Tuesday night, January 3, 2017

Three people went to the hospital Tuesday night after a head-on crash north of Clovis.

Fresno County Fire Capt. Jeremiah Wittwer said the collision involved a Chevy pickup traveling south and a Ford pickup driving north.

CHP spokesman Victor Taylor said the driver of the Chevy pickup was cited for suspicion of driving under the influence and released following the crash. Taylor said some callers reported that the driver had run them off the street.

The driver of the Ford pickup was pinned in and removed by fire crews with the jaws of life. Both drivers were taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

Taylor said there was a passenger in one of the pickups but couldn’t immediately confirm which one. The passenger suffered minor injuries and was also treated at Community Regional Medical Center.

The accident happened just before 9 p.m. north of Behymer Street on Minnewawa Avenue. It was raining when the crash happened, Wittwer said, and the wet road could have contributed to the crash.

Traffic in the area was being diverted and the road was not closed, according California Highway Patrol officials. Names and ages of the people involved in the crash were not immediately released.
