Police closed down the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge after a two-car crash Friday morning that left one person dead.
Janet Evelyn Goggan, 55, a Laguna Vista resident, was found dead in her car when police arrived at the accident.
Goggan died after her Mercedes Benz and a Ford utility van collided on the eastbound lanes of the causeway, authorities said. The causeway was shut down on both sides until emergency crews arrived at the scene.
The eastbound lanes remained closed for hours, and the traffic was backed up to Port Isabel. Motorists stranded on the bridge during the investigation of the accident were being turned back to Port Isabel.
