GOSHEN, OH : Man killed in head-on crash with state trooper on Wednesday, 9th January 2019

Investigators said it will take more time to determine why a state trooper drove left of center night into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.

The head-on crash took the life of a Goshen man, 36-year-old Anthony Bertram.Too shaken with grief to say anything on camera, his parents, Bill and Trina Bertram, stood on their front porch Monday afternoon to say how much they'll miss their oldest son.

Bertram did tile work with his father and lived with his grandparents. He was on his way back from playing cards with friends shortly before 10 p.m. Friday when a routine curve in the road turned deadly.

Investigators confirmed Monday that State Trooper Jeremy Ault, who joined the Batavia Post nearly two years ago, was on his way to respond to a possible impaired driver on Route 52 when his cruiser crossed the center line along Route 222 near Diana Avenue and hit Bertram head-on.

He had not activated his lights or siren, so there is no dashcam video. It was raining at the time of the crash, according to investigators.
