PANAMA CITY, FL : 2 separate crashes send 2 motorcyclists to Bay County on Tuesday, 31st July 2018

Two motorcyclists were hospitalized with critical injuries Monday after two separate collisions with cars.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the first accident happened about 4:30 Monday afternoon at the intersection of Pinetree Avenue and Quarts Street in Panama City Beach. Troopers say 41-year-old motorcycle driver Eric A. Smith of Panama City Beach failed to stop at a stop sign and ran his motorcycle into the left side of a car driven by 23-year-old Monica Alvarado of Nashville, Tennessee.

The car had seven passengers, none of whom was injured.

Smith, however, was taken to Bay Medical Sacred Heart in Panama City with critical injuries. The FHP said he was not wearing a helmet.

The second crash happened about an hour later at the intersection of U.S. Highway 231 and Hyde Avenue in Panama City. Troopers say a GMC Acadia SUV driven by 40-year-old Nancy Nuval of Panama City was trying to cross the southbound lanes of U.S. 231, and Nuval failed to see a motorcycle traveling in the southbound lanes.

The motorcyclist, 21-year-old Eli Buntin of Panama City, was unable to avoid the collision and was thrown from the motorcycle. He suffered critical injuries and was taken to Bay Medical Sacred Heart for treatment. The FHP said he was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the car refused treatment on scene.
