Three drivers and a passenger were injured — one of them severely — Monday morning in a rear-end collision in West Sacramento that ultimately involved four vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Rodney Fitzhugh said the crash occurred shortly after 8:37 a.m. on westbound Highway 50 west of Harbor Boulevard, where the driver of a Ford failed to notice traffic stopped in front of him and struck the back of a silver Toyota.“As a result of this collision there were two additional collisions involving the silver Toyota, grey Hyundai and black Toyota,” Fitzhugh said. The driver of the silver Toyota, 50-year-old Michael Gutierrez of Sacramento, was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries, while three others were treated at area hospitals for minor wounds.

Neither alcohol nor drugs were factor in this collision, Fitzhugh said. Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact the CHP’s Woodland-area office at 530-662-4685.
