Grand Junction, CO : Two killed in wreck on U.S. Highway 6 near New Castle on Saturday, August 13, 2016

Two people were killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 6 east of New Castle.

The Colorado State Patrol said Erick Mondragon, 20, of Glenwood Springs lost control of his 1995 Toyota truck about 3:45 a.m. on a left-hand curve and it skidded off the road, rolled on its side and hit a steel fence.

Mondragon and passenger Amalia Cabrera-Torres, 19, of New Castle were pronounced dead at the scene. Mondragon was not wearing his seat belt while Cabrera-Torres was wearing hers.

The State Patrol says alcohol and speed are being investigated as possible factors in the crash.
