One man is dead after an automobile accident early Sunday morning, Nelson County deputy coroner Brian Papenfuss confirmed to The Kentucky Standard in a Sunday afternoon phone interview.

The accident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday according to a press release sent by the Nelson County Sheriff's Office Sunday afternoon.

According to police, a 2007 Saab operated by 24-year-old Tyler Kays, of Bardstown, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 150. The vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons, according to police, crossed into the westbound lane, where it continued into the ditch line and then into a private drive where the car impacted a stone support for a steel privacy gate.
