14-year-old boy is dead after being struck by a car in Gaston County while walking to school. Multiple media outlets say Cramerton Middle School student Steven Canipe was walking on a local road around 7:25 a.m. Friday. He was about a half-mile from the school when he was struck. Emergency personnel said Canipe was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, but was unconscious when a helicopter flew him to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
