Meridian, MS : Car chase ends in wreck on Mill Street in Meridian on Tuesday, January, 9th 2018

A call about shoplifting Tuesday ended with a car accident on Mill Street after officers chased a suspect for approximately ten minutes in Meridian.

Sgt. Dareall Thompson, with the Meridian Police Department, said the department received a call about a shoplifter at the Bonita Lakes Mall and provided a description of the vehicle just before 10:30 a.m.

An officer spotted the vehicle on Highway 19 South, close to Bonita Lakes Mall, and attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver didn't stop, Thompson said.

After approximately ten minutes, Thompson said the suspect wrecked their vehicle near the corner of Mill Street and 5th Avenue.

According to Thompson, the suspect sustained no injuries and is in the custody of the Meridian Police Department. The suspect's name has not been released because they haven't been formally charged.

Thompson said the suspect could be charged with felony eluding as well as other charges.
