ST. PETERSBURG, FL : 2 people seriously hurt after crash involving Publix truck on I-275 in St. Pete on Saturday, 27th January 2024

Two men were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after a crash on Interstate 275 in St. Petersburg, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. on Sunday on I-275 near the I-375 entrance ramp. According to troopers, the 18-year-old driver of a Toyota Yaris was going northbound on the I-375 entrance ramp in order to merge on northbound I-275. However, because the Yaris driver was "traveling too fast" on a wet roadway, the 18-year-old reportedly lost control of the Yaris. The car rotated and traveled across the roadway until it hit a Publix semi-truck.

Both the 18-year-old Yaris driver and his 28-year-old passenger were seriously hurt as a result and taken to the hospital. Both men are from St. Petersburg, troopers added.

The Publix truck driver, a 34-year-old man from Lakeland, was not hurt in the crash.
