El Rio, CA : Two people killed in vehicle collision near El Rio Sunday evening, August 7, 2016

Two people were killed after a head-on collision near El Rio Sunday evening, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident happened about 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Perello Ranch Road and East Vineyard Avenue.

CHP officers remained at the site an hour later as they waited for a representative from the coroner's office to arrive.

Another five people were reported injured, said Capt. Mike Lindbery of the Ventura County Fire Department.

The accident remained under investigation Sunday night.
