Jersey City,NJ : N.Y. man charged with assault by auto in A.C. Expressway crash on July, Saturday 1st 2017

A Staten Island man was arrested following an alleged hit-and-run on the Atlantic City Expressway this morning, police reported.

A Nissan Altima traveling westbound near mile post 8.6 struck the rear of a Toyota Scion around 8:30 a.m., New Jersey State Police Trooper Lawrence Peele reported.

The Nissan driver, later identified as Vincent Van Pelt, 34, of Staten Island, continued traveling westbound and exited the expressway before he was stopped by Egg Harbor Police on English Creek Avenue.

Two occupants in the Scion suffered minor injuries and were transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus.

Their car was disabled in the roadway and the expressway was shut down temporarily while the wreck was removed.

Van Pelt was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and charged with assault by auto, Peele said.
