Lakeland, FL : Lakeland man killed in single-vehicle crash on Saturday, October, 28th 2017

A Lakeland man was killed late Saturday night when his 1999 Chevrolet Express van hit a power pole on East Memorial Boulevard in Lakeland.

Reginald Stanley Morgan, 55, died at the scene of the accident that occurred just past 10 p.m. in the vicinity of the AAA offices at 1457 E. Memorial Blvd., the Lakeland Police Department said.

The roadway was shut down while a Lakeland Electric crew repaired damage to the power pole, Lakeland police Sgt. Gary Gross said.

According to police, Morgan was eastbound on Memorial Boulevard when his van hit a raised curb, causing the vehicle to rotate and hit the power pole, which broke into three pieces.

Lakeland Electric spokeswoman Cindy Clemmons said power was never lost but the pole that was hit had to be repaired. That repair took about 6 hours.

Morgan was wearing a seat belt, Gross said. He was the lone occupant in the van.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
