Alton. IL : One killed in Head-on collision on Martin Luther King Drive/U.S. 67 Wednesday afternoon, August 3, 2016

A woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a head-on crash on Martin Luther King Drive/U.S. 67 Wednesday afternoon.

A woman, who had not been identified by authorities as of Wednesday evening, was killed when the Hyundai Sonata she was in and a GMC Terrain apparently collided head-on approximately one half-mile south of the highway’s intersection with 20th Street at about 2:50 p.m.

At least two others were injured. Official reports were not released Wednesday to the media.

The highway was closed between Ninth and 20th streets, and was expected to remain closed for several hours, according to firefighters at the scene.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. A third vehicle behind the Terrain was also involved.

The Alton Police Department is investigating.
