Sarasota, FL : Two people died in a head-on collision in Venice on Tuesday, December, 12th 2017

Two people died in a head-on collision in Venice at 6:13 p.m. Tuesday, when a car driving south in the northbound lanes of U.S. 41 collided with a northbound car in the same lane.

Killed in the wrong-way accident was Stephen Lynn Poneleit, 63, of Venice and Shannon Nicole Anderson, 30, of Englewood. A 3-year-old passenger in Anderson’s vehicle was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg but did not suffer injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Poneleit, Anderson and the child were wearing seatbelts.

According to the FHP, Poneleit was traveling south in the northbound lanes of U.S., in the left lane, when his 2007 Nissan Frontier collided with Anderson’s vehicle, driving north in the left northbound lane. Anderson was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier, according to the FHP.
