Ohioville, PA : No students injured in Western Beaver school bus hit-and-run on Tuesday morning, August 23, 2016

A school bus carrying eight children was involved in a hit-and-run on its way to the Western Beaver School District’s Fairview Elementary School on Tuesday morning.

The bus was stopped at a stop sign at Pleasantville Drive and Salem Church Road in Ohioville at about 8:15 a.m. when a white vehicle with Ohio plates rolled into it, according to Ohioville police. The driver, a 20-year-old female, fled the scene, leaving behind the car's front license plate, which had been ripped off in the collision.

Police used the plate to locate the driver, who admitted to striking the bus. Police are still investigating her reason for fleeing but say that no drugs or alcohol were involved.

The bus sustained a few scratches, and neither the driver nor the children were injured, Frye Transportation owner D.J. Frye said. Principal Ron Busby and Fairview’s school nurse met the bus when it arrived in the school parking lot to confirm that none of the students were sore or dizzy in the wake of the accident.

Parents were notified of the incident shortly afterward, Frye said.

Charges against the vehicle’s driver are pending, police said.
